Her tail wags like a feather duster flicking back and forth as I open the fridge door – she knows it’s dinner time. I lovingly scoop food into her bowl, mimicking a nibble noise and say “Mmm, mmmmmm!” Scout trots over to her bowl, tail still wagging and has a sniff. She stops and turns to face me as if to say “Seriously? I’m not eating this.”

To start, you’ll need a slow cooker. It’s a fantastic time saver and the beauty of this recipe as you can do other things like take Lucky for a walk, while it does the cooking.

  • 500g beef mince
  • 500g chicken breast
  • 2 carrots, peeled
  • 2 small sweet potatoes, peeled
  • 1 cup of frozen peas
  • 1 apple
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups of chicken or beef stock

  1. Dice chicken breast, carrots, sweet potatoes and apple into bite size pieces. Don’t include the apple seeds.
  2. Put all ingredients into the slow cooker and mix it all together
  3. Set slow cooker to High and cook for 4 to 5 hours. Or you can set it to Low and cook it overnight while you sleep – super convenient!

Once cooked, keep refrigerated in a container.

Serve it with a bit of quality kibble to ensure your pup gets all the nutrients it needs.
